UNDERSTAND THE SCIENCE​

Neuroscientists have discovered that every experience we go through is stored within our bodies. As Delmonte (2022) states, no psychological change occurs without a corresponding neurological change. For a trap shooter, this means that every shift in mindset triggers a physical shift at the neural level.​

When our mindset turns negative, whether due to stress, frustration, or a missed shot—our bodies respond with physical symptoms like tension or discomfort. Conversely, a positive mindset supports a more relaxed, focused state that allows our bodies to perform with greater ease. In simple terms: when we miss a target, our body tightens. When we stay positive, it stays ready.​

MASTER THE MINDSET​​

​Do you ever stand on the line and think about all the things you didn't do prior to coming to shoot? 

 

Do you count the targets you have missed and focus on what your final score could be? 

 

Do you worry more about the people your shooting with than your next shot? ​

Mastering each shot becomes much simpler when you understand what you're doing. By finding specific eye positions, shooters can activate the subcortical regions of the brain—areas responsible for instinctive responses and focus. Aligning to this eye position allows shooters to center their minds before calling for the bird, creating a state of deep focus that can be maintained throughout the entire round.
